Support for non-Chinese speaking (NCS) students to learn Chinese at SWCSS

1. Our school hires a supporting teacher who specifically teaches NCS students. The teacher provides in-class support, or pull-out programme for individual or group teaching. For example, word recognition training, dictation revision and homework tutorial.
2. Every school year, the supporting teacher collaborates with Chinese teachers to design an Individualised Educational Plan (IEP) for each student according to their needs. Apart from “small steps”, adapted learning materials, accompanied reading and language games are also provided to raise students’ learning motivation.
3. Online teaching and learning is utilized to support students’ learning after school, such as homework tutorial, story-telling and writing support.
4. Subject teachers make adaptations in homework and dictation requirements according to the students’ Chinese level and needs.
